Survey of the nineteenth and twentieth centruy history of these regions that share the common experiences of ancient cultures and kingdomes being shaped into modern nation states by European intervention and colonialis, and being transformed by three powerful and competing forms of monotheism: Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.
