This course examines "Europe's long nineteenth century,"the tumultuous period between the outbreak of the French Revolution and the beginning of WWI. Topics addressed include the French Revolution and its aftershocks, Napoleon's rise and fall, the influence of ideologies such as Conservatism, Romanticism, and Nationalism, the political unifications of Italy and Germany, and the global impact of European Imperialism.
