This class will explore the origin of the interaction between Islam and Christianity by investigating the rise and spread of Islam, the development of a flourishing Islamic civilization, the Byzantine Empire, and the development of the Christian church in the East. Tracing the interaction between these two worlds will reveal both hostile andcooperative relationships which remain important for understanding current world affairs. Spring-Odd
