KNOWLEDGE:  Mathematics provides an approach to problem solving through logic and reasoning.  It is utilized to identify, analyze, generalize, and communicate quantitative relationships.  After completing Math Inquiry with Applications, students will know the fundamental notations and rules of a mathematical system and be able to recognize problems to which mathematics can be applied, translate problem situations into mathematical form, construct and interpret visual representations of mathematical relationships, construct logical and valid mathematical arguments, determine solutions to problems, and communicate those solutions.

COMMUNICATION:  Students will learn to communicate using mathematical symbolism.  They will learn to use equations to model common applications and employ symbols to describe unknown parameters.  Using mathematical symbols is an efficient and effective form of communicating problems and solutions.  In addition to communicating in mathematical symbolism, students will enhance their writing and speaking skills through written projects, group work reports, or theme papers.

TECHNOLOGY:  Upon completion of this course, students will be skilled in the use of basic technology to help solve problems.
